After placing runner up back-to-back seasons…the Pella boys have won the class three-A State Cross Country Meet Championship. The Little Dutch were led by Zach Buchheit in sixth place…that earned him all state honors. The Pella boys Cross Country team won several team titles this year, including Little Hawkeye Conference champions, and district champions, but none bigger than yesterday when they won the Class 3A team State championship. Pella entered the state meet as the number one ranked team and they backed it up placing four winners in the top 20 and winning by a convincing 14 points over second place Boone. Pella was led by Zach Buchheit who earned All State honors finishing 6th, Jon Klein was 15th followed by Zach Wittenberg in 16th, Nathan Buchheit finished 20th, Jon Verhoef was 63rd, Chris Meyers was 87th and Michael Schemm finished 93rd. The Pella girls finished 5th led by Victoria Kleven (CLAY-VEN) in 22nd followed by Mariah Vande Lune in 23rd, Hanna Martin was 48th, Sarah Wittenberg finished 58th, Jessica Andersen was 61st , Sarah Van Maanen finished 78th and Catie Hones finished 86th. Knoxville boys realized their goal of a top ten finish and placed ninth led by Jamie VanderVeer in 11th place. The Pella girls were fifth in class three-A led by Victoria Kleven in 13th place. Knoxville Alissa VanKlootwyk was running as an individual and placed 74th…her final time was 17 minutes and 34 seconds. The Pella Christian boys had a great day in Class 2A finishing 6th in team points. Josh Meyer led the Eagles finishing 24th followed by Skyler Giddings in 25th, Devin Veenstra finished 32nd, Jacob Dahm was 71st, Jon Lensing was 117th, Micah Spoelstra finished 121st and Ryen Van Vark was 125th. Two Eagles girls also ran at state, Michaela Martin finished 40th and Kim Van Zee finished 67th.. Several individuals from the area also competed. Michaela Martin from Pella Christian placed 40th while teammate Kim Van Zee was 67th…and Pleasantville’s Delaney Jensen was 29th. In class one-A boys Bryan Koerselman from Pleasantville was 31st…and in class two-A boys three P-C-M runners were at state led by Koelten Reed in 23rd…Jake Potter in 30th…and Kaleb Catron in 90th.
