As the temperatures continue to drop, local food shelves discuss items in need. Volunteers at Helping Hands Food Pantry in Knoxville have said mattresses and bedding are always in demand, as well as cereals, non-perishable foods and canned goods. JoNes VanHecke, director of the Pella Food Shelf in Pella, says those wishing to donate should consider items they often use in their own home. In related news, Marion County residents can also drop off non-perishable food donations at various drop-box locations around the county for the 8th Annual KNIA/KRLS Food Drive: help us fill up the Big Red Radio and we’ll help fill the local food banks of Marion County. For a list of all locations for you to drop-off your non-perishable food donations, you can visit kniakrls.com and click on ‘Station Events’.
