The Pella Christian girls opened their 2009-2010 season with a 38-33 win over Des Moines Christian last night. The teams battled close through the first haf with the Eagles clinging to a 15-14 halftime lead. The Eagles came out on fire in the third quarter going on a 12-2 run to take control of the game, then held off a late charge to get the win. Coach Kevin Van Maanen says they made typical season opener errors and says they’ll continue to work on timing and ball control as well as getting up to game speed. Jackie Veenstra led the Eagles with 15 points and Shelby Weaver added eight points. The Eagles are 1-0 and will travel to PCM for a JV.Varsity girls doubleheader Monday night starting at 6:15pm. You can hear the varsity game with Jamie Brockman on 92.1 FM KRLS and kniakrls.com starting around 7:30pm Monday night.
