Work on the South Fifth Street Relief Sewer project in Knoxville is mostly complete, and the contractor removed traffic control signs this week and opened the street to the public. Knoxville Public Works Director Jeff May says a few issues remain: the intersection of South Fifth Street and Montgomery Street will have to be closed when weather permits this month or next spring to remove and replace a large portion of the intersection. For now, May says motorists should slow down through the intersection, and signs have been installed to warn traffic to slow down and identify the bump through the intersection.
