The Central College basketball teams split a pair of games with the University of Dubuque last night, as the Dutch returned to Iowa Conference play. The Central women got off to a slow start and never recovered, as the Spartans prevailed 89-75. The Dutch committed a season-high 35 turnovers in the loss. Pella natives Kelsey Schuring and Haley Brillhart were among the leaders offensively for Central, scoring 17 and 12 points, respectively. The loss drops Central to 2-11 overall and 1-3 in the Iowa Conference.

In the men’s game, the Dutch started off slowly, surged offensively just before the half and never looked back as Central defeated Dubuque 76-51. Central guard Miguel Ley tallied a game-high 18 points, while teammate Loren Liming chipped in 15 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to notch his fourth double-double of the season. With the win, the Central men are now 10-3 overall and 3-1 in the Iowa Conference. Both Central College teams are at home again on Saturday to face Coe College.
