A winter storm that has moved into the region has brought many things to a screeching halt Thursday, including school. Pella Schools Superintendent Mark Wittmer says on days when road conditions may be hazardous, he is in close contact with county road crews to determine how safe the roads are to travel on, or if they’re passable at all.

Wittmer adds that factors such as wind chill and the potential for more precipitation are also taken into consideration. The Pella Community School District also works with the Pella Christian and Knoxville School Districts, among others, when considering the postponement or cancellation of school.
