The Central College wrestling team endured a five-match marathon that included three matches with nationally ranked foes and emerged with a 1-4 mark at the North-South Duals hosted by Ursinus College in Pennsylvania Saturday. Fourth-ranked Ithaca beat the Dutch 33-12 and 13th ranked Cortland State was a 43-6 winner. 15th ranked Wilkes stopped Central 36-6 and host Ursinus pulled out a 21-15 win. But the Dutch ended on a bright note with a decisive 30-9 win over Morrisville State o improve to 4-6 in duals on the season which already matches their highest season dual wins total in the past six years. Dutch Sophomore Ivan Gaeta scored the day’s biggest win, stunning Ithaca’s David Priest, ranked fourth in the NCAA Division III at 174 pounds. Central head coach Eric Van Kley also cited Tommy Van Renterghem (sophomore, Oskaloosa) at 165 pounds and Keith Rush who each went 3-2 on the day and Brandon Burrell who made his collegiate debut at 285 pounds and posted a 2-0 mark. The Dutch have another big weekend coming as they host St Olaf in a dual at 7pm Friday night thenhost the 12 team Central Invitational starting at 9am Saturday. It will also be a reunion weekend for Central’s 1984-85 team, which is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its NCAA Division III national runner-up season. Coach Ron Johnson and several team members will return to campus and be recognized at Friday’s dual and again before the championship at teh Central Invitational Saturday.
