The Pella girls and boys have the night off tonight. The Pella boys have had to face some adversity over the past week and learn to play without their leading scorer Nathan Buchheit who has missed the last two games with an injury. With Buchheit on the bench his teammates stepped up and beat ADM on a last second shot and then won comfortably at Oskaloosa. Coach Mark Core says he’s been really impressed with how teh team has responded during Buchheit’s absence. Core says the injury has forced some players to step into roles they may not have been expecting and in the long run that will pay off for the team as it helps build even more depth and players confidence in each other. Core says they’re taking it slow as far as Buchheit’s return but they hope to have him back next week. A few players who have stepped up during Buchheit’s absence include Deckar Lynch who led the team with 14 points in the win over ADM, Chris Bandstra who led the scoring with 13 in the win at Oskaloosa, as well as Kyle Newendorp just to name a few. The Pella girls return to action tomorrow when they head to PCM while the boys are off until Tuesday’s girl/boy doubleheader at South Tama.
