The Pella School Board considered options for making up snow days for the current school year at Monday’s meeting. Through Monday, if the missed days are added on to the end of the year, classes would run until June 10th. The board approved to use Good Friday as one make-up, and count Parent/Teacher Conferences as a day of student contact, as is allowed by the Iowa Department of Education. Should more days be missed due to weather, the Pella School Board opted to add one more day onto the end of the school year and will use the second day of conferences, if necessary.

In other business, the board approved the 2010-2011 school calendar, with classes starting on August 23rd, 2010 and ending on May 26th, 2011. A policy on practices for extracurricular activities on days when the school schedule is adjusted by bad weather was also discussed. The policy will primarily apply to varsity sports and upper-level extracurricular programs, with lower level activities holding no practices or events if there is no school.
