The Knoxville Fire Department is starting a new Adopt a Hydrant program.  The purpose is to raise awareness about the importance of making sure that the area around hydrants is free of snow and ice.  This speeds up the process of hooking a hose up to the hydrants in case of an emergency.  Fire Chief Mike Roberts asks that residents make sure the 3 foot area around hydrants in front of their homes and business is free from snow and ice and advises against using a snow blower or blade near hydrants.
