Information on campaign finances for those seeking to become a state elected official was filed with the State of Iowa last week. As of this month, the campaign for the re-election of Republican state senator Paul McKinley of Chariton held a total of just over $80,000 – before expenses – including nearly $61,000 in cash contributions. McKinley represents District 36 in the Iowa Senate

Another local lawmaker seeking re-election, Republican representative Jim Van Engelenhoven of Pella, had nearly $8,000 before expenses in his campaign fund – $1,800 of which came in the form of campaign contributions. Van Englenhoven will have at least one challenger for the District 71 seat, as Democratic candidate Pat Van Zante has announced plans to run for the Iowa House. Van Zante has some ground to make up in campaign finances, though, as she begins her run with just under $73 in cash on hand.

Marion County’s other state representative, Richard Arnold of Russell, had received $1,250 in cash contributions through this month, for a total of $6,000 of cash on hand before expenses. Arnold represents District 72 in the Iowa House.
