Knoxville is one of the few schools in the area to sign the memorandum of understanding for Iowa’s “Race to the Top”. It has since been signed by Governor Chet Culver and 60% of all schools across Iowa. However there are some concerns involving the required interventions for the lowest performing schools. Knoxville Superintendent Randy Flack says they have signed on because it is an opportunity to receive additional funding to work toward the Iowa core curriculum. The first grants will be awarded in April, with a second round awarded in June. Once states receive notice that they have been selected to receive the award, schools have 90 days to submit their final applications. Pleasantville and PCM Schools also signed the “Race to the Top” memorandum of understanding.
