The Central College men’s and women’s track and field squads opened their indoor season with strong showings at the Illinois Wesleyan University Titan Open Saturday. The Dutch women captured runner-up honors in a 13-team field with 48 points, while the men were eighth in a deep 16-team field with 31 points. Senior Carissa Bentz led the women’s squad, finishing second in the shot put topping her previous best by over four feet and fourth in the long jump. On teh men’s side Sophomore Tyler Crouse blew by his previous best in the weight throw to finish ninth in a loaded field. Mitch Morris was second in a strong 55-meter dash field with a time of 6.57 seconds, easily faster than his previous career-best of 6.65 seconds. The Dutch travel to Mount Vernon next Saturday for the Hilltopper Invitational at Cornell College.
