A pair of Pella High School football players were among the thousands of high school athletes across the nation who put pen to paper Wednesday to select their collegiate futures during National Signing Day. Pella High School seniors Blaine Forsythe and Jordan Youngman signed letters of intent Wednesday to attend Division II schools and play football.

Forsythe, a quarterback for the Dutch, will attend Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota; while Youngman – an offensive tackle – officially signed with Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. Forsythe said he was happy to have the decision behind him.

“I’m definitely excited to have that over with. It started to get really stressful toward the end having coaches calling you every night and asking where you’re at,” said Forsythe. “It’s definitely a good feeling having a decision made to go to Augustana [College]. I felt like that was the best fit for me, and the coaches up there are awesome, so I feel like it’ll be a good fit.”

Youngman said the decision was a tough one, but the opportunity to continue to be successful on the field was a driving factor for him.

“I’m a winner and I like to win. That’s what we did with our program [at Pella High School], and that’s what I want to do with Wayne State,” said Youngman. “I think with the coaches and players [we have], I think we can really give it a shot.”

Forsythe says he’s currently undecided on a major, but is leaning toward something involving business, while Youngman plans to major in Physical Education with a minor in Health. Blaine is the son of Dave and Lori Forsythe, while Jordan’s parents are Jeff and Sue Youngman. Both young men credited tight family bonds as being very helpful in the decision-making process.
