Yesterday was National signing day where high school recruits acorss the country made their official decisions when it comes to playing football at the next level and two Pella athletes did just that. Blaine Forsythe signed with Augustana in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Jordan Youngman officially signed to play for Wayne State in Wayne, Nebraska, both NCAA Division II schools. Forsythe said the decision didn’t come easy but after visiting several different colleges he felt most comfortable at Augustana. Youngman also went on several visits and says Wayne State was actually one of the last he visited but said it immediately felt right to him. After playing together for the past seven plus years, ironically the two will find themselves facing each other on opposite sidelines once a year as both schools are in the same Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Youngman says he looks forward to that. Forsythe meanwhile says he’d rather have J.Y. up front blocking for him, but looks forward to teh friendly rivalry. Youngman will play left tackle at Wayne State. He says he plans to redshirt his freshman season. Forsythe will punt and play some at quarterback for Augustana. he says he’s still tossing around the idea of redshirting his freshman season, but hasn’t finalized that decision yet. Forsythe and Youngman were both three year starters for Pella High and helped lead the Little Dutch to their most successful season ever this past fall where they advanced to the Class 3A State Championship for the first time in school history. The two signed their official declaration letters at the Pella Chamber of Commerce in front of family and friends yesterday afternoon.
