The Pella Christian boys knew they’d be in for a fight at Grinnell and they got just that as it came down to free throws in the final minutes and the Eagles earned a 58-50 win. The game was close all the way through as the Eagles lead was under 10 at the end of each quarter but each time Grinnell made a run Pella Christian answered right back. Coach Larry Hessing said it was good to see his guys grind out a win. The Eagles again had to battle through foul trouble as their leading scorer and rebounder Kyle Nikkel fouled out with a few minutes remaining in the game and Chase Carlson was also forced to sit with four fouls. Hessing said he was pleased with how other players stepped up with those two on the bench and found a way to win. Pella Christian had four players in double figures led by Sam Tvedt and Alex Branderhorst each with 12 points and Kyle Nikkel and Curtis Rozenboom each added 11. The Eagles improved to 14-4 overall and 10-3 in LHC play. They are off until Tuesday when they host undefeated Norwalk, the top ranked team in Class 3A.
