The Marion County Sheriff’s office reports that area roads are up to 100% snow and ice covered and slick.  Sheriff Ron Goemaat has issued a tow ban on Marion County until further notice.

The Iowa Department of Transportation reports that travel west of hwy 14 to Des Moines is difficult on all routes, as is travel east of Marion County.  Towing services are prohibited on HWY 163 within and beyond the Marion County limits.

According to the Marion County Engineer’s Office motor graders will continue to work on gravel roads until dark and begin again at 4:00 am tomorrow morning.  They plan to be through all gravel roads by 7:00 am tomorrow morning.  However, if we do receive the anticipated winds predicted, roads may drift shut again.  The Engineer’s Office anticipates that ice and snow on highways will continue to be a problem until the temperature moderates.

If you must travel, please use extra caution and give our road crews and first responders every courtesy possible.
