The Central College men’s and women’s track and field squads captured both pentathlon titles in strong showings at the Fighting Scot Invitational Saturday. Kurtis Brondyke continued his strong indoor campaign with a personal-best 3,801 points in the pentathlon, easily surpassing the NCAA automatic-qualifying standard and securing a spot at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. He also topped Central’s previous school record set in 2003. He won four of the five events in the competition, setting personal bests in the 55-meter hurdles, shot put, and the 1,000-meter run. Meanwhile, Jill Ziskovsky won the women’s heptathlon and improved her personal-best score to 3,174, an NCAA provisional mark. Teammates Carissa Bentz and Caitlin Wilson finished second and third respectively, both also setting personal-bests. Matt Graber won the shot put for the second week in a row, while Andrew Hamer took the 5,000 in a personal-best. The men’s 4×200 meter relay team also finished first. Freshman Felicia Coleman continued her outstanding rookie season, helping the Dutch win two events. Coleman easily won the 55-meters and ran the lead-off leg of the winning 4×200 meter relay. The Dutch travel to Cedar Falls Friday for the UNI-Dome Open.
