The Central College men’s golf team took fourth in their season opener at the Dutch Desert Shootout Wednesday while the women’s squad placed second. The Dutch hosted the one-day tournament in Chandler, Arizona. Division II national contender and defending champion Grand Canyon took the men’s title with a score of 288. The Central red team shot a 313 to finish fourth and Central’s white team finished just six strokes back in seventh with a score of 319.. Andrew Townsend and Jason Harvey led the Dutch red team in a tie for 13th place with a score of 76. Grand Canyon also took the women’s title with a team score of 313. The Dutch women’s squad finished second with a score of 373. Central was led by Eva Downes in 6th with an 89 and Nicole Wenstrand in 7th with a 92. The Central men will return to action hosting the Central Dutch Classic at Bos Landen in Pella, March 26-27.
