After enduring heavy rain and hail, the Central baseball team provided some thunder of their own as they swept Martin Luther College 11-2 and 7-5 Monday in non-conference baseball action. The first game’s start was delayed because of rain and then a storm that peppered the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex field with marble-sized hail rolled through, causing an 85-minute delay prior to the start of game two. Jared Lackey had four hits and drove in six runs, including a two-run single to break a 4-4 tie and give Central the win in the nightcap. Lackey also belted his third home run in the opener. Center fielder Ryan Allison also had four hits, including his fourth home run, a solo blast to lead off the third inning of the second game. Freshman Pitcher Ryan Goetzinger went the distance in the opener. He shut out Martin Luther for six innings before giving up two runs in the seventh. He allowed six hits, walking one and striking out seven, and improved to 2-3. Central returns to Iowa Conference play tomorrow at 3 p.m. with a nine-inning game against preseason conference favorite Coe College at Cedar Rapids.
