Three severe thunderstorm warnings were in place yesterday afternoon and evening in Marion County. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on alert to give residents up to the minute coverage. There were reports of quarter sized hail throughout the county and surrounding counties, high winds in excess of 50 miles per hour, reports of damage to buildings in the rural Pella and Otley area.

Emergency management coordinator Jeff Anderson tells KNIA KRLS news that a minimum of 30 structures were damaged as a result of last night’s storm. The storm damaged houses and farm structures beginning at County Road G-28 and 180th Avenue, continuing north past Highway 163, with the worse damage having occurred just north of Highway 163 and 180th Avenue. One attached garage lost had two walls blown out, and one farm building lost its roof. At least two large trees were also downed by the storm.
