Severe storms caused damage across much of Iowa this week, including hail and wind damage in Marion County and surrounding areas. KNIA KRLS news has received reports of non-local contractors offering to make repairs to damaged homes and outbuildings and are making false promises to residents or not informing them of the fine print involved with making such repairs. Dan McKay with McKay insurance agency in Knoxville says that whenever possible work with a local, reputable contractor you know you can trust. Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat adds that it is important to try and work with local businesses you can check references on because if you do incur problems they can be easily rectified, rather than struggling to track down someone from out of town to have them fix the problems.
