The Pella Christian girls soccer team was once again too much for Centerville as they got a 9-0 shutout win at home in the first game of a girls/boy doubleheader last night and the boys capped it off with a 3-2 win. The Eagle girls also scored nine goals in a win over Centerville two weeks ago. The Eagles led just 2-0 at halftime off of goals scored by Karianne Bolt and Bri Warden but were very aggressive in the second half scoring seven goals as Vanessa Blankespoor, Buffy Bouwkamp, and Christina Nolte each scored two goals along with one goal from Johanna Brouwer. Kayla Groenendyk and Gabriella Daft each tallied 17 defensive stops as the Eagles improved to 4-7 on the season.
The boys made it a clean sweep as they finally got over the hump and ended a seven game losing streak with a hard fought 3-2 win over Centerville. Dan Hessing got the Eagles on the board first scoring on a free kick from the 18 yard line, Centerville answered back scoring two goals and held a 2-1 lead at halftime. Peter Park tied the game 8 minutes into the second half scoring off a rebound then Jon Lensing had the game winner two minutes later. Eagle goalkeeper Nathaniel Terpstra recorded 17 saves in the win. Coach Josh Visser was very happy with their intensity and said it was one of their overall better games of the season.
The Eagles hope to build off this momentum when they travel to Grinnell tonight and the girls will host the Tigers.
