Pella’s doubles team of Jared Gerber and Max Weseman finished second in yesterday’s Class 1A District tennis meet held at Pella Christian and earned a trip to the Class 1A State Doubles Tennis Tournament May 28th and 29th in Waterloo.

After receiving an opening round bye, the duo won their first two matches in straight sets before falling 7-5, 6-4 to Andy Stefanik and Alex Knoot of Oskaloosa in the finals. No other players from Pella, Knoxville or Pella Christian finished in the top two to qualify for state.

Oskaloosa won the team title with 21 points and advances to Team Sub State May 22nd. LHC champions Grinnell finished second with 18 points and Pella was third with 14 points. Pella will now travel to Grinnell Saturday to face the Tigers in a Pre-Substate match with the winner moving on to Team Substate. Grinnell beat Pella in the final conference match of the season 6-5.
