The Pella girls track team finished fifth at yesterday’s Class 3A Regional Track and Field meet at South Tama and locked in five events for next weeks girls State Track and Field Meet , while Knoxville girls finished seventh and locked in one event so far for the state meet.

Events that are in for Pella include Nadine Van Zomeren in the 400 who set a new school record last night, Marielle Gaiser in the 400 hurdles and their 4×400, 4×800 and Sprint Medley Relay teams.

Knoxville’s lone qualifier so far is Jessica Stickel in the 400 with her second place finish in the Regional meet.

The top two finishers in each event last night automatically qualified for the state meet, however, the next eight best times and throws combined from all the Class 3A Regionals around the state will also qualify. Pella coach Dak Rasmussen says it’s a waiting game to see if any other events will qualify, but they are very confident they’ll get at least a few more in and posibly as many as six more. The additional state qualifiers based on times and distances will be made official and released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union later this evening.
