The Pella Hospital Auxiliary recently awarded seven scholarships to local students to help them get the education necessary to become a Registered Nurse. The students are recipients of the Mary Evers Scholarship, which benefits employees of Pella Regional Health Center, or nursing students in the Pella Community School District. Of this year’s recipients, four are 2010 graduates of Pella Community High School that are planning to enter the nursing field.

The Mary Evers Scholarship was created in 1966 to honor Mary Evers, who died in an auto accident while she was in nursing school. It was her dream to become a nurse.
