Pella Christian was three outs away from getting a win at Carlisle last night leading 5-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, however, a couple costly defensive breakdowns allowed Carlisle to tie the game and eventually win 6-5 in eight innings in the non conference matchup.
Kyle DeRonde took the loss pitching seven innings giving up six runs, only two of which were earned, on six hits, while striking out three, and walking three and also had three hit by pitch. At the plate, Sam DeNooy smacked his first homerun of the season and was 1-3 with 2 RBI, Micah Nieboer also had an RBI. Jon Holwerda, Zack Zylstra, DeRonde, and Tom Bouwkamp also each had a hit as the sixth ranked Eagles fell to 12-2 on the season and are 6-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
Tonight the Eagles return to action as they travel across town for their first meeting with cross town rivals Pella. Rolffs says although he hasn’t seen Pella play this season, he knows they are much improved and will play tough at home:.
