The Pella softball team went 3-0 at the Martensdale St. Mary’s tournament yesterday. The Lady Dutch began the day eating the host school Martensdale St. Mary’s 4-3 in eight innings. Mandy Demeulenaere got the win pitching all eight innings allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out nine. Allie Demeulenaere knocked in the game winning RBI in the eighth inning. In the second game Pella defeated Earlham 8-6. Freshman pitcher Bri Arkema got the win allowing seven hits while recording 10 strikeouts and walking five. The final game of the day provided the most excitement as Pella came from behind to beat Melcher Dallas 9-7. The Lady Dutch trailed 7-0 in the fifth inning, but erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to regain the lead. Mandy Demeulenaere started the game and was relieved by Arkema in the fifth inning who eventually got the win. Whitney Williams was 3-6 on the day including an in the park homerun against Melcher Dallas, and Lisa Houser had five hits in the tournament. Pella improved to 9-5 overall with the wins and returns to Little Hawkeye Conference play at Oskaloosa Monday night.
