Though heavy rains in the morning and scorching afternoon temperatures forced them to abbreviate the length of the tournament, the Pella Christian softball team made the most of the games they played yesterday – winning both of their games at the Pella Christian Softball Classic.

The Lady Eagles scored all of their runs in the first inning in a 4-1 win over Sigourney – highlighted by a three-run homer by catcher Tayler Stursma.

Pella Christian was more dominant in their second contest of the day, routing Belle Plaine 11-1 in five innings. Heather Van Sant, Shelby Weaver and Paige Blom – the first three batters in the PC line-up – went a combined 9-for-12 at the plate and knocked in five runs in the victory.

In the pitching circle, Paige Blom rolled up ten strikeouts and gave up just one run in five innings of work in the win over Sigourney, while Amber Sneller pitched a combined seven innings in yesterday’s games, striking out seven and giving up no earned runs.

The wins advanced the Pella Christian softball team’s record to 15-6 overall this season.
