While the large amount of rainfall this month has increased the water levels at Lake Red Rock and the Des Moines River, it has also increases safety concerns for boaters.  Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat says the high water levels, caused by runoff upstream, has resulted in a large amount of driftwood in Marion County waterways.  Goemaat says driftwood can damage boats and cause them to capsize if they are hit at high speeds.  He advises boaters to slow down and use extra caution especially during the upcoming holiday weekend, as the Independence Day holiday is typically a busy time for boaters across the country.
