Knoxville brought the bats to its double header with Newton last night and swept the Cardinals 7-6 in game one and 11-6 in game two. Game one was back-and-forth with both teams trading the lead in the first couple of innings. However in the third the Panthers plated three runs to break a two-all tie highlighted by a Blake McWilliams two-run home run and Lance Daugherty also with an R-B-I. Knoxville then had to hang on in the seventh to get the win. Daugherty got the win in game one going four innings allowing four runs on nine hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Game two was close until the fifth when Knoxville took a four-to-three lead and erupted for six runs to make it ten/three. Lance Daugherty came through again with a two R-B-I single. Kellen Glover and Adam Theil also knocked in runs. Justin Katich got the win going 4 2/3 innings allowing three runs on three hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Coach Steve Mott was worried how his pitching would go this week, was very pleased to have gone 6-1 and not strain his pitchers too much. Knoxville will think the Fourth of July holiday extends into next week, because the Panthers do not have a game until Wednesday when Norwalk comes to town for a varsity double header. Knoxville then will host Pella next Friday before closing out the regular season next Monday at Oskaloosa.
