The Marion County Board of Supervisors discussed recent damages to the courthouse grounds at their special meeting Thursday morning. In the past few weeks there has been damage reported to picnic tables and benches near the band shell. Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat and Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada reported that both departments are keeping a closer eye on the situation and expending additional resources in hope of catching the vandals. Sheriff Goemaat advises anyone who sees suspicious activity on the square to report it to the dispatch center by calling 911.

The board also discussed progress being made on the new public health building and the status of the Department of Human Services building. Marion County Maintenance Department head Ken Trailkill says plans for the public health building are behind by roughly one month as the board is still awaiting bids and he is also looking into options to repair the roof as they have found a few small leaks. Board Chair Howard Pothoven says things are coming along fairly well at the Department of Human Services Building. Supervisor Jim Kingery reported that the offices for HIRTA and Red Rock Community Action are ready and they should be able to move in by September 26th. They county will also be adding additional parking for the HIRTA buses on the north and east side of the existing parking lot.
