The estimated dollar amount of community benefits provided by Pella Regional Health Center in 2009 increased by $1.4 million from 2008. That’s according to a recent assessment of the hospital’s programs and services by the Iowa Hospital Association. The $6.6 million dollars in benefits includes over $4.4 million in uncompensated care; such as charity care, bad debt and unpaid costs of Medicaid.
In 2009, Pella Regional provided 35 programs and services that qualified under the community benefit definition, including health screenings, immunizations and nutritional services. Those programs were estimated to serve over 27,500 people in the region. The community benefit results for Pella Regional Health Center are included in a statewide report assembled by the Iowa Hospital Association that shows all 118 of Iowa’s community hospitals providing community benefits in 2009 valued at more than $1.2 billion.
