Home remodeling projects are up this summer. Doug Kooyman with Kooyman Lumber in Pella says the building of new homes decreased again this summer, meaning more home-owners upgraded what they already had. He says creating outdoor living spaces, such as decks and patios have been among the most popular remodeling projects, along with the installation of new cabinets indoors.
Paul Vitek with Spahn and Rose Lumber in Knoxville adds that the replacement of roofing damaged by wind and hail this spring has been a common do-it-yourself project, along with replacing windows and siding. Both men said that remodeling projects to add value to their homes would vary depending on the condition of the home, though both added that improvements to the front entry door of a home would likely yield the best return in their investment for those homeowners planning on selling their home.
