The 114th Annual Old Settlers Celebration begins Friday evening in Monroe. Among the highlights opening the two-day event are the children’s parade at 6:00 p.m., the firemen’s water fights at 7:00 p.m., along with the Crazy Go-Cart race at the same time and the band 45 RPM performing at 8:00 p.m. The events take place in or near the park on the square in Monroe.

Old Settlers day will continue on Saturday with a full slate of activities from 6:30 a.m. to beyond 9:30 p.m. that include several sports competitions, BINGO, rides and concessions, a car show and a concert featuring Elton John impersonator Lee Alverson.
