The Pella Christian volleyball team is anxiously awaiting the start of the 2010 season. The Lady Eagles lost six seniors from last year’s state tournament-qualifying team, but still return a number of strong hitters that will look to improve upon last year’s 23-15 mark.

Pella Christian has 14 athletes on the varsity squad this year, which Head Coach John Evenhouse says is a workable number. Evenhouse says he’s been pleased with progress made in practice this week, particularly yesterday.

“We’ve been working hard. You’ve got to get through the point where the JV players are joining the Varsity and getting used to much faster play, and we’re starting to pass that point,” said Evenhouse. “We had kind of a slow week this week. We got a little bit more physical and had a little bit more conditioning going on, and I thought we had a real nice practice today [Thursday], so we’re closing in.”

Pella Christian will play in a scrimmage at Ankeny tomorrow, before starting the season this coming Tuesday with a home contest against Johnston.
