The Pella football team continues to focus on strengths of this year’s players and trying to find the right fits for the right positions. One key opening comes at quarterback and replacing two year starter Blaine Forsythe. Coach Jay Mckinstrey says Teag Klyn will be the starting quarterback and he says Teag brings a lot to the table. He says he can throw well and is doing a good job taking command of the huddle and offense and earning the respect of his teammates.
For any offense to be successful it takes a strong offensive line and that’s an area where Pella was hit hard by graduation, losing three of the five starters. Mckinstrey says it may take some time for the offensive line to develop, but they’ve got some kids stepping in and working hard for those positions/ He says Chris Bandstra, Zach Zemanek and Daniel Borgerding all return with experience, however they also play full time on defense so finding depth on the offensive line is something they need to do to give those guys some breathers. He also notes Ryan Van Noorden is looking good at center and Garret Zwank will be at a tackle spot and those five guys are the leading candidates for offensive line positions. He also noted they plan to use the tight ends more in their offense this season and they’ve got some good candidates there as well. He says staying healthy will be a big key for the offensive line especially with several guys playing on both sides of the football.
