The Pella Christian volleyball team opened the 2010 season in a big way last night, as the Lady Eagles knocked off Johnston 3-1 in Pella. Pella Christian took the first two games by scores of 25-23 and 25-21, respectively, before faltering briefly 25-18 in game three. In the fourth game of the match, the Lady Eagles found themselves down 8-4 early on, before a 12 point run put Pella Christian up 16-8. They never trailed again after that.

The Eagles’ attack was led by Jenna Horstman’s 11 kills, while Sarah Faber set up 18 assists. Defensively, Paige Zylstra blocked the Johnston hitters 5 times, while Ashley Van Kooten and Meredith Fopma recorded 18 and 14 digs, respectively. The Pella Christian volleyball team will try and keep the momentum rolling tomorrow night, when they continue early season play at Winterset.
