Beginning January 1st of 2011, there will be new regulations implemented that affect the issuance of conceal and carry permits in the state of Iowa. The current law leaves the decision up to the sheriff in each of Iowa’s 99 counties to decide whether or not an applicant can obtain a conceal and carry permit. Sheriff Ron Goemaat says he and past sheriffs have always issued permits to responsible residents, though other sheriff’s issued little to no permits in their counties. Therefore, he says there may be less of an impact here than other areas across the state.
