Pella firefighters responded to a fire Friday night at a Pella residence. The fire started in the upstairs of a two-story home at 807 E. 2nd street. The cause of the fire is unknown and Pella Fire Department Chief Doug Van Gorkum says that no one was home when the fire started but there was a dog inside. The pet was rescued and made it out unscathed. A man who was walking by the scene spotted the flames and called in the fire.

Van Gorkom adds that the homeowner’s valuables were saved, though the structure did sustain some smoke and water damage upstairs. The Marion County Recorder’s Office states that the deed is held by David Van Heukelom of Pella.
