Central College’s Justin Livingston continued his fast start to the fall season, carding a 1-under-par 70 in the first-round of the 36-hole Grand View Invitational Sunday. Livingston helped the Dutch post a 291 team score on a wet, chilly afternoon at the par-71 Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny. Brent Goodenow followed with 73 while Travis Havens and Jason Harvey each shot 74 and Brent Messmore had 75. Standings for the 12-team tourney were not yet available. The tourney concludes with a 9 a.m. shotgun start today.

Central College sophomore and Knoxville native Kaurie Kincaid and Ali Miller each fired 85 for strong finishes at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic women’s golf tourney Sunday. Miller’s round was a career best, and she was Central’s top performer with 174. Kincaid followed at 175. Central shot 704 on the par-72 Ironwood Golf Course. No team results were yet available. The Dutch were 17th in the 22-team field heading into Sunday’s round. Central heads to the 36-hole Loras Invitational this weekend.

John Gonzalez finished tenth in a loaded 217-runner field as the Central College men’s cross country team placed fourth at the 13-team St. Olaf Invitational Saturday. Rookie Austin O’Brien was also among the front runners, finishing just behind Gonzalez in 12th. .Jon Klein, a freshman from Pella, finished 45th. Sophomore Mel McDermott was the first Dutch finisher in the women’s race, crossing the line in 33rd to lead Central to an eighth-place finish in the 14-team field. Freshman Amanda Dunkin of Pella was 59th. Both teams have this weekend off and are headed to Cedar Rapids Oct. 1 for the Coe Lamb-Kohawk Invitational.

Senior forward Brett McKenzie shot the game-winning goal off a penalty kick as the Central College men’s soccer team beat St. John’s 1-0 Sunday for its fifth straight victory. Improving to 5-1 overall. The Dutch finish out their road tour against Grinnell College Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Grinnell A quick two-goal flurry let St. Mary’s assert command and hand the Central College women’s soccer team a 3-0 defeat Sunday. Central generated six shots, including three by Brianne Knutson, Shelby Austin went the distance in goal for the Dutch, making 10 saves. Central travels to Oskaloosa Wednesday for its final non-conference game of the season, a 6 p.m. contest at NAIA foe William Penn. The Dutch then open Iowa Conference play with a home contest against Buena Vista Saturday.

Four players came away with four wins as the Central College women’s tennis team swept Buena Vista 9-0 before taking an 8-1 victory against Morningside in a triangular Saturday in Storm Lake. The Dutch improved to 6-2 and are 4-1 in the Iowa Conference and they continue their 10-match road swing, heading to Indianola Wednesday to play Simpson before traveling to Rock Island, Illinois. next Saturday, for a triangular against Augustana and North Central.
