Pella Christian is back home tonight to face what so far has been a bruising rushing attack of I-35.
The Roadrunners are the top rushing, and overall offensive team in the district, and one of the best in the state in all classes, averaging 426 yards per game on the ground led by Ethan Calvert who has rushed for 870 yards in four games which puts him third overall in Iowa . Pella Christian coach Rich Kacmarynski says it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out I-35’s game plan, but the challenge is stopping it.
Kacmarynski says the Eagles defense made huge strides last week forcing Clarinda into punts on nine of their 11 possessions and he says they’ll have to equal that and maybe even step up another notch to slow down Calvert tonight. He says if they can do that I-35 doesn’t have much of a backup plan offensively. He says a big advantage for Pella Christian is they’re much more balanced and multi dimensional offensively and need to use that advantage tonight holding onto the ball and keeping it away from I-35.
I-35 is 4-0 overall and 2-0 in district play but the teams they’ve beaten have a combined record of 2-14. Pella Christian is 3-1 and 1-1 in district play.
You can hear tonight’s game live with Jamie Brockman and Nate Van Wyk on 92.1 FM KRLS starting with the pre game at 7pm and kickoff at 7:30pm. The broadcast will also be streamed live on kniakrls.com
