With just three regular season games remaining, Pella Christian is sitting in a pretty good spot in Class 2A District 8, as they host Colfax Mingo tomorrow night.
The Eagles are part of a three way tie for second in the district race with PCM and I-35, a game behind leader Bondurant Farrar, however the Eagles have already beaten both PCM and I-35, plus, Bondurant Farrar, PCM and I-35 all have to play each other in the final weeks of the regular season. If the Eagles win out, they will finish no worse than second, and could still win a district title with a little help. Coach Rich Kacmarynski says as they head down the stretch, their senior leadership will be huge, noting they have 12 seniors and he’s depending on them to show the way.
The Eagles have been on a roll the past three weeks with big wins over Clarinda, I-35 and PCM, and what’s perhaps most amazing about their success, is the fact they really haven’t been full strength most of the season due to injuries up front on both sides of the ball. Kacmarynski says it’s been a bit of a revolving door this year on the offensive and defensive lines due to injuries, but credited his assistant coaches for finding the right guys to fill the spots, and the younger kids for stepping up. He says they hope to be getting some of those injured players back during the final three weeks of the regular season and into the post season.
