Marion County came away with three top ten team performances at yesterday’s State Cross Country Meet. The Knoxville boys finished runner-up to Dubuque Wahlert by four points while Pella finsihed sixth. Pella’s Zach Buchheit led three Marion County boys runners with All-State performances as Buchheit finished in second place, Knoxville’s Jamie VanderVeer was third and Pella’s Evan Jones placed seventh. Knoxville Coach Mike Moats said the guys ran very well, and while they were a little down about finishing runner-up, a trophy and a banner to take home lifted their spirits. The third team was the Pella girls who took third place in the three-A race. Gaby Meirick led the Lady Dutch with an All-State performance in fifth place. In class 2A, the Pella Christian boys finished 15th as the Eagles grabbed two All-State medals with Skylar Giddings placing seventh and Josh Meyer finished ninth. Three other local runners were at state. Knoxville’s Alissa VanKlootwyk placed 43rd in class 3A girls, with a personal best time of 15:50, Pella Christian’s Sarah Brandsen finished 58th in class 2A girls, and P-C-M’s Jake Potter was 12th in class 2A boys.
