For the fifth consecutive year the Pella volleyball team is headed to the Class 3A State Volleyball Tournament following their 3-1 win over Winterset in last night’s Regional Final at Knoxville.

The 5th ranked Lady Dutch came out strong winning the first two games 25-19 and 25-11 and looked to be headed towards a sweep, however Winterset didn’t go down easy and took the third game 25-16, but Pella fired right back with the game four and match winning victory 25-18. Coach Bob Fessler says they made some mistakes in that third game but credited his seniors for bouncing back quick. [simage=4373,200,y,right]

This is Pella’s fifth straight trip to the state tournament, but Fessler says it never gets old and this is what they work for during those hot summer days in the gym.

Hali Steenhoek and Kelsi Rempe each had a huge night with 16 kills a piece, Kelsey Fynaardt also provided a spark off the bench with seven kills and two blocks, Brooke Fessler dished out 44 assists, Makenzie VanderMolen had 15 digs, Lindsay Bentzinger had 13 and Fessler 11 digs.

Pella improved to 38-5 on the season, which ties the school record for wins in a season set last year, and will face fourth ranked Sioux City Heelan in the opening round of the Class 3A State Volleyball Tournament next Wednesday at 6pm at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
