Steve A. DeCook died Sunday December 26th, in the home of his daughter in Thornton, Colorado after a brave six year battle with one of the rarest and most aggressive forms of cancer, angio sarcoma. Survivors include his wife, Dawn, daughter, Brionna (Ben) Orozco of Thornton, Colorado; a son, Ryan (Amy) of Richfield, Minnesota; his parents, Arthur and Evelyn DeCook of Pella, two sisters, Barb (Dennis) Lester of Colfax and Cheryl (Will) Morgan of Atherton, California, one brother, Larry of Pella and a granddaughter, Enslea Grace.

Steve was born on December 14th, 1953 in Des Moines, the son of Arthur and Evelyn DePenning DeCook. He married Dawn M. Marvin on June 24th, 1978 in Cedar Rapids. He was a talented designer at Schneider Electric and was well respected by his coworkers. He was a hard worker, always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family in need even when he himself was suffering. He was a Cadet leader for many years at Peace Christian Reformed Church, mentoring boys to become men of faith.

Steve was a wonderful, devoted and loving husband and father. He always put family first. Granddaughter, Enslea Grace was the joy of his life. A friend recently mentioned that Colorado is Steve and Dawn’s heaven on earth. That is because their favorite little angel lives there. He was a talented wood worker and flower gardener/landscaper. He enjoyed photography and spending time in the mountains of Colorado. He amazed everyone with his ability to repair or rebuild anything. Steve was always involved in his kids’ activities and never missed a music concert or sporting event; often coaching the kids sports teams when they were younger. He is a hero and inspiration to all who knew him.
