As previously reported, the Iowa legislature approved new gun legislation during this year’s session and the changes will take effect after January 1st. According to Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat Wednesday is the final day his office will issue the one year permits. Those who do not renew before the end of the business day Wednesday will have to wait until Monday January 3rd and apply for a new five year permit as their computer software will need to be updated Thursday in order to process permits under the new law.
