The volunteers of the Pella Fire Department and Pella Ambulance services spent Thursday evening learning new skills and training for confined spaces rescue operations. Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkom says that while there isn’t a pressing need for the training, he wanted his crews to be prepared, and to recognize situations that might present a danger to rescue workers. Pella Ambulance Service Director Doug Polking says the joint training excercises are important because the departments often work together at emergency scenes.
