Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and will be celebrated on the Central College Campus by events to remember his 1967 visit to Pella, when Dr. King came at the invitation of Don Lubbers, then President of Central College. His daughter, Pella native Mary Montgomery recalls the visit and says she understood the impact of the civil rights leader’s visit, but that as time has passed the event has become even more important to her. Montgomery adds that it’s a thrill to enter a search for the event online and see pictures of Dr. King with her parents in the living room she grew up in.
