In a matchup of two of the premiere teams in the state of Iowa Saturday night in Monroe, the PCM Boys knocked off Pella by a 71-65 score. The game featured a pace that can only be matched by the fast forward button with both teams using uptempo offense to score. Pella used pressure defense and a deep bench early to build a lead in the second quarter and the Little Dutch held a 38-32 advantage at the halftime break. PCM battled through foul trouble in the second half causing coach Fred Lorenson to go deeper on his bench, giving big minutes to reserve Andrew McCarthy who ended the night with a great two point and four assist performance in the rivalry game. Pella went cold in the third quarter while PCM’s Josh Fosenburg heated up. Fosenburg scored 13 of his game high 22 in the quarter. The Mustangs outscored the Little Dutch 24-8 in the frame to build a 56-46 lead. Pella would put together a run late trailing by nine with three minutes to go, cutting the Mustang lead to two but a pair of clutch free throws by Nate VandeWall sealed the deal. Along with Fosenburg, Scott Bruxvoort had 18 points and VandeWall totaled 13. Pella was led by Kyle Newendorp with 18, Deckar Lynch recorded 11 points for the Little Dutch. With the win PCM stays perfect at 14-0 overall, Pella falls to 8-2 on the year.
